Our annual vacation to Sapphire Valley N.C. lends a wonderful predictability missing from the rest of our life. There’s waterfalls, a lake, bourbon, smoked barbecue and hiking… not many other choices.
Each summer, we take a break from work deadlines, kid’s camp and cul-de-sac living to get closer to nature. Sunken in the shadows of the mountain town of Cashiers, our wooded escape harkens memories of running down the forested paths of childhood. The entire family meets up there, spends a couple of weeks together, and just mellows out in general. This year, we arrived during Fourth of July weekend. We hit up an Independence Day celebration, which included Sarah winning gold during a basketball shootout, Grayson becoming pissed off over a cakewalk loss, Giulian getting bounce-house drunk, and me hanging with the folks I love most. Sarah snapped off a few pictures during the festivities, as well as the rest of our vacation to Appalachia. Enjoy the view!
